Allied Powers, name given to any of several alliances of countries in military opposition to another group of countries. In World War I (1914-1918), the Allied and Associated Powers consisted of 28 nations, including Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States; they were opposed by the Central Powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.
