My eldest daughter had it some years back. I thought that scarlet fever was like some "Little House on the Prairie" disease cuz I know it used to be a big deal..until I was told that it's simply strep throat with a rash. A course of antibiotics and loving care by me and she was fine...and none of my others kids have ever had it...

One of my children had scarlet fever. Scarlet fever and rhuematic fever are not the same. Scarlet fever is mainly an infection with a certain strain of the strep bacteria that causes a rash. The treatment is still the same( antibiotics). There are many different STRAINS of strep, one or more can cause a rash that is "called" scarlet fever.

Yes, my daughter did last year. She had a fever for 3 days and then developed a rash and I took her in and they thought it was strep, but that came back -. But then they tested it for Scarlet Fever and it was +. After being on the medication for a week, the rash went away but the fever didn't. Then the rash returned and she ended up spending 2 days in the hospital with Kawaske's disease. She had to have a blood transfusion, IV, EKG, etc. It was a very scary time for us and her, seeing she was only 3 and hated doctors to begin with.
Then last week she started it all over again, a fever for 2 days then a rash and thank god it was actually strep this time. I was not prepared to deal with another serious illness.
A normal case of scarlet fever should go away in a week with the proper antibiotics. And no worries. :) Good luck.

I had it as a child, along with the strep throat. I only remember this because it was the first time I had antibiotics to treat it (I was always healthy)-and I was allergic. Nearly died more from the antibiotics than the scarlet fever itself!

My child hasn't... but one of the kids at his daycare did. He had a harsh fever for about week before he broke out in a rash. The mother waited until the rash appeared before taking him to the doctor. I think if a kid has a fever for more than 48 hours, it's time to go to the doctor!
After taking the antibiotics for 2 days, he was fine. But catching it early is the best solution.

I know that when I was a baby I had it. It gave me a temp over 104 and a rash on my stomach and a sore throat, as my mom recalled. If you ever suspect scarlet fever in a child seek immediate medical attention.

My daughter had scarlatina which is a form of scarlet fever.
We were given an antibiotic and watched her closely her temp had to be contained by cool cloths etc.
That was 2 years ago, you can not tell anything was wrong now.
She had a temp up to 105 to 106 for a while before she got better.

I had boarder line rhuematic fever weekly for years as a child.
Scarlet fever isnt that common, but it surely does happen. You should see the doctor if you think you child has it. It needs to be monitored closely.
