Doesn't this encourage illegal immigration?

Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Yes they SHOULD be citizens because our Constitution dictates it. Get over it.

No not really for when you do this you just encourage people to try and get into the US illegally. If you you want to encourage bad behavior there is a simple way to do it, just keep rewarding it.

For Jill A how far back would you like to go back in history to justify your logic my African ancestors took over land from the Arawak Indians native Mexicans were taken over by the Spaniards there is not many nations on earth that were not conquered at one time and the indigenous people sent to basic obscurity

There are women who risk their lives, while pregnant, just to have their babies on American soil. After getting here many illegals get pregnant as soon as possible for exactly that reason. It's hard to kick a mom out when her baby was born an American isn't it? Then, to make matters worse, after being here for say, 10 years, their child IS an American in more ways than just being born here. They grew up here, in this culture, and feel just as American as my kids and yours. In fact, they are just as American, there is no way around that. Do we deport their mothers and put these kids into the system? Do we send American children away from their homeland to a country they don't know or love when we ship their mothers back? It is the biggest Catch-22 of the immigration problem. Amnesty for families with children born here is the only amnesty worth considering. The problem is that it encompasses a majority of illegals under its umbrella. No wonder we have not taken swifter action. I wish I could do more than echo your questions with more questions, but if I had a morally correct answer I would be writing to every government official I could find. I am one of those who think every illegal should be rounded up and returned immediately to their country of origin - then someone points to little Johnny Garcia, who has never known anything but being an American. Does anyone have an answer to this problem? I haven't heard a workable one yet...

Children born in this country should be given citizenship rights and responsibilities regardless of how their parents came to be here. If we were to say that they shouldn't have citizenship because their parents way of coming to this country was an illegal activity, then perhaps we should use the same thought process for children of say...murderers, rapists, drug dealers? Illegal Immigration is encouraged by poor laws and a desire for a better life.

No, they should not be granted citizenship. This definetely encourages illegal immigration. If you knew you could go to a better country, have your child and have them be a citizen eligible to receive a free education and all other government programs, would you consider it? I know of no other country in the world that lets things go on like this. In no other country would you be able to illegally reside and receive such benefits. We need to wake up!

Aren't all Americans really "illegals"? Wasn't this land the land of native Americans in the first place? Think about it deeply. And I am a US citizen.

Definitely yes, if a child born to illegals is good enough to "fight for this country" in Iraq...even against his/her will, then why not?

I would gladly give my place away in the miltary to any of you guys (if you guys feel I'm taking the "JOB") and be my guest dealing with the weather and the sand and been away from your family for yrs in a row.

I understand the question, and I understand the concerns, I'm very open minded......but it gives you something to think about.....if we didnt get citizenship rights.....a third from the troops will be coming back....because I have been there and I know what's ethnic groups are there.

P.S. (eventhough my parents are not illegal, but were at some point) For You, they will be illegals, but for me.......they are my parents...and I LOVE them with all my heart.

No other country in the world follows this idiotic practice. The 14th Amendment was meant to address freed slaves. That stupidity ended 140 years ago.

Time to close the loophole and seal the borders. No more anchor babies.

No! Cut their source off Employers/Landlords/Welfare this is a higher priority that any fence or wall! Yes anchor babies should be outlawed local/state/federal legislation wise! The constitution needs re-working in this area! And NO Arnold Sw------- for president either!!! Elway yes the solution is keep them with the parents being escorted out of USA!!!
