1. Get a new printer driver, 2. Disconnect the printer cable, 3. Control Panel --> Add/Remove: Printer drivers, 4. Control panel--> Printers: delete all printers, 5. Install the new driver, 6. Plug again the printer. (some drivers require the printer to be plugged in before installing)

If that does not work, try using one of the built-in Windows drivers, probably has an older model of your printer.

Another way: If your printer is USB and has a parallel port, try using it. I have seen so many problems with USB printers... I always use the parallel port. Not efficient, but, it always work.

One common issue with USB printers: Windows re-detecting the printer and installing it with a different name, "Copy #3 of Printer". Programs try to print to the default printer, and tell users there's no printer.

Assumptions:
cable is connected between PC and Printer (USB I assume). You are logging in as an Administrator capable user?
You are using the CD that came with the printer to install the printer driver ?

If you got a new commputer or new Windows software like Windows XP 2005 and old printer, you might need to order new software (CD) for your printer from the company that made the printer.

You need to reinstall the driver that came with your printer, maybe your not using the right CD that it is on. Check the CD and make sure it says printer driver. Also check the cable,
and make sure it's plugged in on both ends.

Well my friend you haven't stated the type of printer you are using and the cable type it using. But try changing newer cables and make sure both your LPT and USB ports are well configured on your PC.
