People always say "it's colder than a well diggers azz", but I've never dug a well in the middle of January, so I have no point of referance.
Any help?

That's just a little colder than it takes to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. About 6 degrees kelvin colder, if I recall correctly. But not quite as cold as a Withch's T^t in February.

the earth's constant temperature is somewhere around 40-50 degrees F at the depth of most wells so if a well digger was the temperature of his well, it would be about that
