I just saw a news article which described a cat that had been lost on an airplane as "starvated". I understood what was implied from the root of the word, but I'd never heard it before. Googling it shows several people using the word, but no dictionary site (to include urbandictionary.com) I've looked at shows this as a word. Where did it come from? Does it's entymololgy have any basis in any grammatical usage?

I should add that many of the sites I found by googling the word are respectable sites that I'm surprised are using what appears to be a made-up word.

It's not in the Oxford English Dictionary, which is considered the "bible" of such things.

I don't believe starvated is a word, I can't find it in any dictionaries either. Its sad that informative publications would not be more careful about their use of grammar.

I don't know, but I have seen some people using it. Instead of starvated, it should be as 'starved'. I have seen so many Indians and Pakistanis using 'proudy' for 'proud' or 'arrogant'. It seems to be the same here.

I cannot find this word either. It has to be made up. The only meaning I get from it is extremely starved. If you ever find out what it means let us know.

Do you think a thing can be discolorated? I've heard that too; think it's someone trying to sound smarter than he thinks he is....
