I know that you can, but how do you go about it. Do you write a letter to the school or what? Only answer if you know.

I had a friend in school who's mum was a Jehovas Witness, she wrote to the school and requested that he didn't take RE so he got to sit in the library and do homework or read, whatever he wanted to do.

Yes, you just need to write a letter to the school. Are you sure you are making the right decision though? I think RE is a very important subject as it helps children to learn more about different people and their faiths and therefore can help create more tolerance towards people with differences. If people simply understood why others do certain things (i.e. wear headscarves / wear a crucifix) then there would be much less ignorance and more harmony

You write a letter to the Head Teacher of the school requesting that your daughter be withdrawn from RE classes. You may also want to request she be withdrawn from other activities (e.g. assemblies) that have a religious component (e.g. prayers, hymns).

it may be different now but when i was at school, you had to sign a consent form to say whether your child could do it.that was ten years ago though so it may be compulsory now.If i were you i would have a word with the teacher then get it down in writing

You need to talk to the Headmaster, write/phone him or her giving brief details and make an appointment.

Contact the school and give your reasons. They will usually offer another activity.
