Apparently most of the answerers on here don't remember the oil embargo in the seventies. I believe that iran was a major player. If it happened again, we would be ok for a short time, because of the strategic reserves but then things would start getting bad for us. Iran might piss off the other opec countries, but remember, in comparison to the other countries over there, Iran is the superpower.

If Iran blocked all flow of oil out of the Persian gulf they run the risk of angering the rest of the oil producing nations in the regions. These different countries don't always agree eye-to-eye on all matters, but the one thing they ALL agree on is NEVER DISTURB THE FLOW OF OIL.

Remember the only time in the last 50 years that these nations all agreed on one thing? 1991, Iraq invaded Kuwait. Every nation in the region was afraid Saddam would come after their oil next and invited the USA into the mid-east with open arms.

It might be a blessing in the long run maybe it would speed up the switch to alternative fuels many people don't realize that the Nazi did not have oil they converted coal/shale to gasoline. We have enough shale in the US the equivalent to billions of barrel of oil.

Many people think it would be a disaster and in the short run yes! but necessities is the mother of invention and it could be better for us in the long run.

If, If, If, Why don't we stop worrying about stuff that hasn't happened? Life's too short to spend all your time worrying about stuff that isn't worth worrying about. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your latte.
