No, you need your filter to circulate the water, clean the water, and oxygenate the water, 24/7. your filter shouldn't be making noise. Is it rattling or is it the water falling?
if it's the water falling, then raise the level of the water, so the trickling sound won't be as loud.
If it's a rattling, then you might want to look into getting a new filter, because filters shouldn't rattle.
If you have an undergravel filter, and it's the pump/bubbles making noise, then just make sure the pump isn't touching anything (it vibrates and makes a racket when its touching something) or just get a different type of filter, like an external Water Fall filter, which is quieter and more efficient.

No, if you want your fish to live they need that filter running 24/7. What is loud about it? Is it the sound of the water flowing back to the tank or the motor on the filter? If it is the water then just raise the water level in the tank so the water from the filter doesn't splash into the tank. If it is the motor then think about getting one that is quieter.

NO!! Your filter circulates the water and provides oxygen for the fish. If you do that you take the risk of your Nitrate and Nitrite levels rising along with making your tank cloudy. Your filter shouldn't make any noise. Make sure your water level is at least 3/4 the way up the siphon tube.

No, no, no! You should look for a quieter filter. Your water is going to get all messed up if you keep turning the filter off. They need to be running all the time.

No. by no ability turn the clear out off for more effective than an hour. Why? because the clear out does 2 jobs. initially, it builds up a bacterial colony on the media interior it. The micro organism spoil down ammonia in fish waste and uneaten nutrients into nitrate. the 2d concern is, it renews the oxygen degrees interior the tank (or facilitates to) and circulates the water. The micro organism interior the clear out want the recirculated, oxygen-wealthy water to live to inform the tale. After 20 minutes, they start up to die off, and after an hour, the degrees of micro organism interior the clear out reaches intense. something more effective than which will stress the clear out to recycle - and which ability something from 3 weeks to 2 months of ammonia and nitrite poisoning on your fish (in the experience that they live to inform the tale).

Yes.but if it gets cloudy I wouldnt do that any longer.perhaps put something of thick material over it to insulate the sound. But make sure the air pump still runs a night as this will cause fish to die.if they don't have enough oxygen.my filter went out for days once and it didnt hurt the fish any.depends on the fish though.but I really dont think it would hurt them at all if you turned it off just while you slept then turned it right back on
