Because I don't have a credit card.

And when I set the artwork myself in the iTunes library, it doesn't show up on my iPod.

You need to sign up with iTunes to have it automatically download artwork for you, but you can always snag pictures off the internet for free and use the click/drag method to drop them into iTunes. Just make sure you have one or more of the songs that you'd want to have that album artwork tied to, and either drag the artwork into the artwork viewing pane in the lower left corner, or use the Get Info function and drag it into the artwork pane that pops up.

Once you've done that, you need to set your iPod to allow music to show the artwork. Connect your iPod and select the Music tab. At the very bottom it will have a checkbox to Display Album Artwork on Your iPod. Click it, click Apply (lower right), and you're done. All songs that have artwork assigned to them will now display it on your iPod when played.

No. If you play a song, look in the bottom left corner and you should see a square that says no album artwork availble. All you have to do if paste the album art you want (from sites like amazon or FYE) in that square and they will show up on your ipod the next time you sync it.
