At my OB appointment on Tuesday, my doctor told me that she doens't expect me to have the baby until a couple days after my due date or possibly even a week or two after, since I am a first time mom. She also said it was normal to have a baby after the due date and most women do. If I wanted to induce my labor the week of my due date, is there anything I can do that is a sure-fire way to work? Not saying that I do, but i don't want to have to go another two weeks after my due date (Jan. 27th) if I don't have to. I know babies come when they are ready, but I'm just curious.

first of all your due date is estimated that's why they put it down as EDD it can be a couple of weeks out either way. and no one can tell you that they think you will be late because its your first not even a midwife or doctor unless here is a medical reason. they do it to make you panic. your baby will come when ready on the date. b4. or after weather its your 1st or 5th my first baby tried to come 8wks early i was very happy they could stop her so she could mature prop then she came 2 wks early so did my other 2 children so don't worry and enjoy your self. squatting and crawling is good for getting your baby in position ready for birth and help the head engage. good luck and enjoy your baby they are so precious

I know you as well as I was getting tired of hearing people say dont try and induce your own labor, let nature take its course. It drives me nuts when I hear that. Like why did I even post this question anyways? Well I was also interested in this and did some research and talked to a woman at an herbal store and she told me to take blue cohosh and drink red raspberry leaf tea, she said the tea helps some people but not all people but if you use both of them together it should work. I mean I would rather try doing it naturally in the comfort of my home then being put on pitocin at the hospital. I was put on that with my 1st pregnancy and dont like it a bit. I went from 5cm to 10 cm in less than 40 min and did not recieve an epi. cause I dialated too fast. I would rather try natural ways first and if they didnt work let pitocin be my last option. Some people get on here saying this stuff not even realizing what or how long we have been going through this. Good luck and I hope it works for you...I also heard from a website that enemas and hot baths help too.

Well on what your telling me your not thinning . Meaning effaced . You can have lots of sex or masturbate . this will help you thin meaning loosing your mucus plug . By your next appointment if you are at least 25% effaced and at least dilated to a 1 + then go to your local health food store and buy some blue coho sh . The pills will put you in some intense contractions and will kinda make you feel sick but it will break your water . Can take up to 1 day . NOW do not do this if your not thinning . It will not work . You can get also get the blue coho sh drops . This you can take if your not thinning well . It can help you thin and it won't make you sick . Most of the time if your not ready it will give you some little contractions but that is all . You can go ogle Blue Coho sh and read more about it . If you do decide to do this walk alto with it to progress it . Good luck .

Walk...and walk...and walk. It does help some. The more you're up and having that pressure from the baby, the more it will want to start the process of delivery. I agree, going over the due-date sucks! I had my son 10 days overdue and I was soooooo glad it FINALLY happened. With my first daughter, I was worried about going over and I walked a whole lot...she was born at almost 38 weeks. Other than walking, I wouldn't try out any other methods...like drinking castor oil (I was told to do that) or driving over hills at high speeds(yeah, that's safe when you're pregnant). You're right..the baby will come when it's ready, but who's to say you won't deliver right on time anyways? Good luck and I wish you the best with everything.

My first baby was 12 days early. You can help your labor along by asking your OB to strip your membranes, you can walk a lot, have sex, and do nipple stimulation. The sex and stimulation release hormones that can induce labor. In the meantime, get everything in order and run all your errands because life is actually easier with that baby in your belly!! Good luck and congratulations.

What makes her think you will be as much as two weeks late? Even for a first time mom, two weeks is getting late.
Having said that, going beyond your expected date is normal (even if this wasn't your first time) and there isn't anything to be concerned about. It all depends on the woman. Some women are never late; some women are late with every pregnancy.

The only way to be sure you don't have to go 2 weeks after your due date is to be induced.

My son was born 5 days after his due date. The day I went into labor was the day we moved and I had been doing some heavy lifting and going up and down stairs.

They will usually still stick with your original due date. If you go all the way to 40 weeks, you may have a slightly bigger baby. When I was 32 weeks I was measuring 34 weeks. I delivered at 34 weeks, but my little girl was 6 lbs. already.

Well, when my friend wanted to have her baby, close to her due date, her and her boyfriend had sex, and a few hours later she was in labor. I have heard from a few people that having sex can make you go into labor. Congratulations
