Has any one ever heard of a manufacturer that makes a washer and dryer with locks on it so others can't use them?
Like in a 2 family home where 1 tennant doesn't want another to use their machines?

Ck with a locksmith or home improvement center like home depot or lowe's... they may have heard or can direct u the direction of such a mechanism. I'm sure there is a way to secure either a strap with lock or an actual lock on the lids of each other than a coin laundry option. But be aware u would be voiding your warranty on them.

Outside of the commercial route, the best bet might be to install a strap hinged latch with a hasp for attaching a padlock on the lid to prevent the other tenants from putting in their laundry. Think the type of lock hardware you'd use on a gate.

There are also keypad devices but they may be susceptible to water damage.

Another alternative might be to control the access to the electricity to that room via a lock on the electrical box, or a locked outlet for the washer or dryer plug in. You would have to unlock the outlet and plug the washer or dryer in each time you wanted to use it.

Putting the machines in a lockable room (if at all possible) would be the simplest solution.

The only suggestion I can make is get a commercial coin operated machine and set the cost very high. Then if they are used you get paid.

Why not just put a doorknob lock on the door to the laundry room?
