Hi, XHTML, HTML aren't really programming language and V.B isn't
a great language either in my opinion. I would personally suggest
you to learn Python, a high-level programming language which is
easy to learn, clean and powerful. Otherwise, Java and C++ are
mainstream language that you might want to learn. Also, learning
a language takes time especially if it is the first one, so I would
recommend you getting a nice book or find a nice tutorial. (for python go to www.python.org). Just pick a book, read and practice.

it would take you a good year & more to learn basics of all of the Languages out there. Best to go to http://www.w3schools.com and do some of the tutorials. Search Google for the principles of programming. The structure of code and simple programs.
You must learn the concept of programming before you jump in or you will drown! Learn to walk before running. I think the basic fundamentals of programming is designing a program that has a function(s).
Basically a program will produce and find out information (data) and perform tasks that act upon that information. It is up to the programmer what he wants to do. It is best to decided exactly what you want the program to do before writing any code.

you dont have to get it on amazon but the for "dummies" books taght my 11 year-old to program linux.
