My ten-month daughter sometimes has a strange vibrating reaction. It has happened on numerous occasions when she has eaten spicy food like hot sauce. (Yes, I know I will get lots of people telling me not to let her eat spicy food, but we have a large family and all love spicy food. There is so much of it around and like babies will do she just grabs at what she wants sometimes) Anyway, she does a shivering that sort of looks like someone who is really cold but puts both hands up (not cuddled up againsts herself). Her expression is also like someone who is shivering with cold and she looks right in my eyes like she is trying to communicate - so maybe it is just "Hey mom that's too hot!" But she also did it when she had some ice cream and another time when she was laughing and had not eaten anything she suddenly did it. It lasts a good five or six seconds and when I call her name or try to distract her from it she doesn't stop. However, when it is over, she seems perfectly normal.

I think this is normal. My son does this with ice cream as well.
Keep giving her the spicy food as long as she is tolerating it well. (She will spit it out if she doesn't like it) I personally thinks kids should be able to taste a variety of foods.

Sound like it is most likely tied to the extreme foods, but it could be a tooth coming in or pinching a nerve or something. I saw a show where this little girl did the same thing and she had this problem where a nerve kept getting pinched repeatedly.

I dont think what she is experiencing is a seixure. It is absolutly normal for babies under a year old to have the shivers like you described and they are caused by her nervous sysytem maturing. If it is something that you are really concerned about you should contact your pediatrician, I did and mine told me he exact same thing I just told you but each child is different.....

It could be but I am not a doctor. It sounds like maybe petite mal seizure (epilepsy) but dont start to worry about your child because I said this but maybe bring it up to the doctor and see if he/she has ruled out epilepsy. They have much better medicines for epilepsy now and its no longer as hard to treat as it was in years past.

anytime you say to yourself "could this be a seizure"
you definitely should take your child to get checked out
my nephew has silent seizures and the only symptoms we ever noticed was his eyes would go out of focus when you would speak to him
and it turned out to be a brain tumor that thankfully was caught early on and now he is a healthy 3 year old thanks to our over protective nature
so my advice to you is get it checked cause its better safe than sorry.
