The DNA is usually identical. However, the gene expression might not necessarily be the same. In animals, being identical twins is no guarantee that the color markings on the fur will be the same.
According to Wikipedia:
"Identical twins have identical DNA but differing environmental influences throughout their lives affect which genes are switched on or off. This is called epigenetic modification. A study of 80 pairs of human twins ranging in age from 3 to 74 showed that the youngest twins have relatively few epigenetic differences."

Dispite the discrepancies, here are my conclusions. Identical twins start out with identical DNA. However, as the DNA is unpacked and genes are expressed, differences begin to emerge. Identical twins share the same DNA - but do not have identical DNA. The largest difference may be in the mitochondrial DNA.

Besides some random mutations which will have taken place, identical are exactly that in terms of genetics: identical.
How could it be different? They originate from the same cell, which of course has the same DNA as itself, isn't that a striking logic?
Gene expression will undoubtely vary, but the DNA is theoretically the same.
Why would so many scientist do research on twins? It's is exactly because they have identical DNA, so they can verify what in their behaviour, physiology etc. is linked to the DNA and what is not.

Yes they do. And I know this not because of sheer genius but because of an episode of Maury Povich where a woman slept with identical twins and they couldn't tell her who the baby's father was because of the matching DNA.

Identical twins started from the exact same fertilized egg, so yes they have identical DNA.

I have 2 sets of identical twins & each set have the same DNA..I should know .I have a set of Girls & a set of boys. The Doctor told me I would have Twins every time but I told him to take of that " RIGHT NOW ". Ha Ha No more Twins.

Not exactly. Though they may have very high similarities in DNA there are certain differences that will tell them apart. The hard part is you have to look further into their DNA structure to see the actually determine the difference and this will take a much longer process than regular DNA profiling.

hey..
no 2 ppl in this world r 'completely' identical; even id twins
id twins r about 98-99% similar
they differ in that small 2-3% only
this difference can be seen only in the functioning of the body & not on their physical structure
