Why people listen to Bob Dylan? Well, Dylan doesn't have a very good voice, he has an ok voice, but Dylan is one of America's best Songwriters. Dylan has inspired everyone from the Beatles to Tom Petty, to Johnny Cash, to Pearl Jam and Nirvana, Led Zepplin, Foo Fighters,Bruce Sprinstein, the list goes on and on. He is an American Treasure. As far as some of his greatest songs, All along the Watchtower is awsome (he did it before Hendrix did, he wrote it), Highway 61 is an awsome album. I would suggest a greatest hits CD first. There are a bunch out there, and you'll be amazed to see how many melodies, and guitar chord progressions, and song writers styles come from Dylan. Alot of modern radio compares people to Dylan and state that different peoples music is "Dylanesc" , because of the music style, but more so because of the writing style. But yes, he isn't much of a singer, he was great when he was younger, but he never really recovered after his motorcycle accident years ago. Another path is to buy a Tribute to Bob Dylan, which has other performers singing Bob Dylan songs.

Try listening to the album "Highway 61 Revisited" I found that to be a great jumping off spot for Dylan music.

I'm extra partial to his 70's divorcee interval, however dig it all fairly. I've obvious him in live performance in 'seventy six, at Willie Nelson's B-day celebration in 'ninety three, and once more in Vegas in '06. Great stuff. The guy is a genius

i like because he is an excellent songwriter and he wrote "Like a Rolling Stone". A lot of artist cover at least one of his songs. They usaully sing it better than he does, but without Dylan that song wouldn't even exist.

he's an amazing songwriter. One of the easiest albums to start off with is "Blood on the Tracks."

i think he is a lyrical genious. he may have had several years of barely audible singing but that didn't subtract from his poetic writing. he has a newer album out called modern times, i love it and it is very audible.
