You think you know someone's name, but aren't sure if you remembered it right. Do you take the chance of calling them the wrong name, or bear the embarassment of saying "What's your name again?" , assuming you can't discreetly ask someone else what their name is before you have to talk to them.

Talk very fast and say, "I'm sorry, what was your name again? I am having one of those days and I just can't seem to keep anything straight." Then when they tell you, slap your forehead and say, "Oh, right! Ugh, what is the matter with me today? How could I have forgotten that!". Then move on...

I shout his/her name and look somewhere else and if he looks around thinking that somebody called him, then I go up to him and talk to him by that name with which he responded. If it's not the case I go up to him and ask him the real name.

It depends on if I've been drinking. If I'm sober, then no I just pretend I know who they are, if I'm not sober, then I pretty much call them whatever name comes to mind. At my boyfriends company Christmas party, I kept calling one of his bosses Jack when his name was Joe. Thankfully he wasn't offended and thought it was funny.

I have this same problem and am not sure what to do. If possible I'm going to ask one of their friends what this persons name is.

Everyone just calls me the guy who's rubbish at names.
I'll just think of you as that typing dog. It's all anyone says about you anyway.

If I was with someone, I would introduce my friend to the "nameless" person, in hopes they would say their name to my friend. Bingo.
