If a team fumbles out of bounds and the ball goes out further down field than the player, does the team get the ball where it goes out of bounds? In the same idea if a player fumbles and the ball goes down the field and a player from the same team falls on it does that team get the forward progress if the other team never touches it?

If it is spotted where the ball goes out or where it is recovered what stops a team from faking a fumble and having a team mate ready to recover?

I don't think anyone has it exactly correct yet, as there are different rules depending on time, and some of the answers are completely wrong, regardless of not mentioning the time rule.

This question falls under to different rules depending on how much time is left on the clock.

First if more than 2 minutes left in the half, and it is not fourth down.

If a team fumbles the ball, and it goes out further down the field, and goes out of bounds, it would return to the spot of the fumble, unless it goes out of the end zone, then it is a touch back.

If the same situation happens and it is recovered by a teammate, then it is also spotted at the recovery point, regardless of if the other team touched the ball.

If there are less than 2 minutes left in the game, or fourth down, either situation would put the ball back to the spot of the fumble, and it would still be the offense's (fumbling team's) ball. Unless it when to the endzone then again it would be a touchback.

What prevents them from "faking" is the 10 yard penalty from the spot of the foul for illegal foward pass. You do not need to have any receiver to qualify for an illegal pass. Just that you moved the ball forward.

If a team fumbles and the ball goes further down the field, then out of bounds, then the team gets the ball where it went out at. Same thing for your 2nd scenario. If another team mate falls on it, it's their ball wherever the man fell on it. I don't think anything stops anyone from faking a fumble and having another teammate ready to recover down field. It's just that, when he "fakes" fumbling, a player from the other team now has a shot at the ball, and if they happen to get it, it will be a turnover and the other team will have momentum going into their drive. So you wouldn't really want to fake fumble.

I believe hte ball is spotted where the ball crosses the out of bounds line, not where it lands. This applies for an offensive team fumbling and for a defensive fumble. If the referee feels the player fumbled the ball on purpose then i believe it is a penalty.

You would not get the forward progress of the ball if fumbled out of bounds. It would be mark at the point he fumbled. If the fumble is recovered by the opposing team it is marked at the point of the recovery.

They would get the ball where it went out of bounds unless it goes into the end zone, then they would get it at the spot of the fumble. If it's fumbled backwards, they would get it where it's recovered regardless if the other team doesnt touch it. Hope this helps.

Yes. The officials rule down were it left off. As long as it wasnt a forced fumble from the carrier to go out of bounds, its played were it left the field.

wherever the ball goes out of bounds at is where it will be spotted. if it goes futher down the field, and the opposite team recovers it, that is where the ball is spotted, whether the other team touches it or not

A fumble out of bounds is just ruled dead where it (the football) went out of bounds, and control is awarded to the team who had control last before the fumble.

Yes. It is spotted where the ball goes out of bounds or where the ball is recovered.
