Yes this is based on a true story and the real waterboy is Tom Brady. Adam Sandler did a wonderful job portraying Tommy. You can especially see it in the eyes.

Waterboy isn't based on a true story. But it is one of Adam Sandler's best movies. On the movie, Bobby Bouchet plays for the Mud Dogs.

also based on Cajun Man-pure fiction, BUT one could very easily make a parallel between the U. of Southwestern La. (USL-now UL Lafayette) and LSU. UL of Lafayette has always been known as an awesome party school and is located right in the middle of Cajun Country. There is actually a swamp with alligators in the middle of campus. No explanation is needed for LSU.
