Yes, you should. This allows for SSI to keep more accurate records. You may or may not get something back because of having a child, however, I don't believe tax is deducted from SSI payments so I am not sure.

Basically if you are issued any sort of slip or return from anyone, and you will likely get one from SSI , you are required to file a return. This may be to your benefit as well, because if you are to receive some sort of taxable payment, like lotto or civil claims or something in later years, you will be able to carry forward unclaimed credits, like dependants, into later years. Your return should be relatively simple and you should likely be able to do it your self.

And please do not listen to the first answerer. People who have never suffered from a debilitating illness do not understand. I am lucky enough not to have myself, but my spouse suffers from a chronic pain syndrome called Fibromylagia. Some days he cannot get out of bed, even to use the washroom and then some days, he feels fine. But, it is pretty hard to find an employer who is fine when you cannot come into work for weeks or months at a time.

How YOU doin is also wrong. You are contributing to society by working toward raising a good, smart and loving daughter.

My heart is with you and your daughter.

Yes!. No one is exempt from doing taxes. You will likely get a return (although it won't likely be much). This is Big Bros. way of maintaining control of everyone's success, access to services, etc.

If SSI is you ONLY source if income, you do not have to file taxes. If you worked, or cashed in a resource, you should file your taxes.
