Recently Chicago has been making an effort to integrate more schools in chicago, but still the schools are segregated. At this day and time the world should be ashamed of its self. Minority schools are still without resources that there white youth have. How can we fix the system if you think it has a problem?

I think that lots of people are trying to figure out this issue. The more that we try to integrate and give school vouchures etc, the more that people find ways to keep things segregated.

Well I think it has more to do with money than race.

Public schools in the richer neighborhoods, like Lincoln Park, have better resources than those in poorer neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, the poorer neighborhoods have a higher percentage of minorities.

There are "public" schools that you cannot enroll in unless you live in the area. These areas have enormous property taxes making it nearly impossible for even middle class families to send their kids to a decent public school.

My aunt is teacher in the CPS and works in one of the lesser-advantaged schools. It's hard but if you want to suceed, there are ways. Work hard and keep going. There are lots of scholarships and grants to help pay for college, especially if you are a minority.

Being white or caucasion isn't necessarily a pass in life. There are lot's of poor caucasions, too. Just try to not let race get in your way. Then, at least, you can't be accused of being "racist".

Peace in Chicago!

Most white elementary age children in Chicago go to private schools. I believe white students make up, at most, 10% of the students in public schools in Chicago. There aren't enough of them to change the demographics. The federal government is probably going to allow CPS to stop its busing program because it won't change the demographics. The problem resides more with the students than with the schools. Look at Evanston.

That the schools are segregated - is hogwash . Parents usually want their kids in school where they live-unless there is some danger in their own community ; in which case-why isn't that ever addressed ?
