Filing bankruptcy (BK) does not mean you get to live for free if you are renting.

If you own a house and stop making payments the lender will eventually take back the home. The BK will only delay their efforts until the BK trustee gives them permission.

A chapter 13 is a payment plan where you work out what is reasonable. That can mean that you need to move to a less costly apartment as it is not a way to live like a king while not paying other bills.

If you are filing BK speak with your attorney so that you know how the process works. Otherwise you might be surprised.

yes.if you are behind then that amount you can file in your chapter 13 and then as you make payments to your court trustee then the landlord will get "some"of that money and you do have to continue paying your rent.If you had a mortgage same situation but in making those payments to your court trustee,your mortgage co.would get 100 %of the money owed to them in those payments.Anything eles you file in the chapter 13 gets 10% of whatever you owe and a mortgage or car loan would get 100%.If you want to continue living where you are living you should keep paying,but when you file ( if you do) i would not be surprised if your landlord found a reason to send you on your way if you owe him.
