I'm not muslim or anything, but I like the idea of being able to wear like a cloak with a hood on it on a daily basis, and since muslim women wear hijabs and burkas, it shouldn't be out of question. The only problem is that people will probably assume I'm muslim and freak out just because I choose to cover up with a cloak.

Personally I think that cloaks should make a comeback... I love cloaks, but the only time I get to wear one is when the local Ren Fest is in town...

As a muslim I think "here we go again, another girl who's jumped on the band wagon". The burka is now a fashion statement in many parts of the UK-sad but true. Wearing a hijab/burka in my opinion is up to a person and what they believe.

Muslims cover up in 'loose' clothing such as a burka-wearing a tight one that shows ya bum kinda misses the point but due to the new age burka fashion most girls are wearing it to be in with the crowd.

My mum use to wear one when I was a kid. I wear one when I go to visit my family abroad to show respect to the culture-but I don't wear one in the UK.

If anyone freaks out by seeing you in a hooded cloak they are narrow minded. For example the Kaftan top is loosely based on kaftans worn back is 1281 (roughly, this is where we can date it back to) by the Ottoman Dynasty. They were Turks, Arabs call them what you will. You see people wearing kaftans today-but noone goes around calling them turks etc do they. Narrow minded people often need a wake up call, I wouldn't worry if some people freak out. I'm sure they'll get over it.

When I see a woman wearing a hijab here (in Ontario, Canada), I think nothing of it. I also think nothing of it when I see Amish women in thier solid coloured dresses and kapps (those little white caps they wear). I live in a city where I see both on a pretty regular basis. Diversity is common.

I have a slightly different reaction when I see a burka. In part it is cultural - you just don't see many of them here. In part it is my natural reaction against extremism in any form and the burka is a fairly extreme interpretation of the Qu'ran's teaching's on modesty. 'In all things moderation' is one of my mottos.

Of course, I also play with historical re-enactors who wear cloaks on a regular basis, so frankly if I saw you in a cloak, I probably wouldn't even look at you twice. I have long black wool Kinsdale cloak (an Irish style) that I wear myself on a fairly regular basis when it's cold, but not too cold (then I switch to a North Face coat). No one, at least where I live, even seems to notice. But then the previously mentioned Amish women also wear such cloaks in cold weather.

i live in a muslim country, so its more than normal to see women in burka/hijab. it is a personal choice for them and i dont think anyone has the right to discriminate against them just because they dont show off their hair or clothes.. that just shows that those people base their judgements on looks & physical attributes..

Well, I live in rural Maine, so while seeing a Muslim person is highly unusual, chances are they're not coming to bomb us to smithereens and it doesn't scare anyone. I don't know how it would be in the city, but I think the trick is to not look too menacing. Just don't make it black- people associate that with terrorists.

My reaction is to ask, why can't I wear something pretty too? I like pretty. They are probably so comfy and snug. Who cares what everybody else thinks? Let the freaks freak on out. One problem though, if an ethnic guy saw me in one, he might think I should follow those rules too. Not! I'm not walking 3 paces behind anybody. And I won't have an escort either.

If it's silk with a really elegant paisley pattern, I find it adorable. Black is a bit over-done, but you can't mess with a classic.

No Muslim has ever called me a heathen.

The times I've seen people covered up I automatically think that they are tourists and wonder if they are hot in there, especially when it's summer.
