Oprah.

Because she started out as just another talk show host but she also broke ground as being the first overweight, black female on t.v. we have had Sally for so long it was interesting to see how this "Oprah?" person was going to do.

Then over the years she battle her weight just like all the other plain Jane in the world.Dealing with those nasty "so called" newspaper just about every month with her personal life. She telling us about her life plans about not getting married or having kids because you DON'T have to. There is choices.

And she doesn't always thinks its all about HER. she also started the Angel Network to help young kids to be able to go to college, third world and even helped people who were homeless by Katrina with the help of her viewers with the computer setup of ordering household items they would need for their new homes, food, clothes,
Who else could have gotten US to Want to give a damn about other people.
She has done so much. I MIGHT be pushing this but she even done more than what Jesus had done when he walked on this earth or since then.
When was the last time Jesus THAT you know of that Jesus actually help???

It's a difficult question to answer because there have been so many people, and history is a long time. You could say that the person who invented writing was the most influential person, or perhaps the first person to decided to domesticate plants, but we don't know who any of those people are. But if you're talking about people whose names we know, I'd rather look at Socrates, whose ideas of philosophy influenced Plato and Aristotle, and other less famous Greek thinkers, who all in turn created the foundations of Arabic and European learning. Their ideas of logic would eventually lay the foundations for scientific thought and the modern world. Then again, we don't know who influenced Socrates, or what other influences the later thinkers absorbed. Then again, Socrates' ideas wouldn't have meant much without the Greek success in the war against the Persians, and that depended on the Themistocles, who rallied the men of Athens and directed the navy at the Battle of Artemisium, or the Spartans and Thebans who gave their lives at the Battle of Thermopylae. Without them, Greek culture would not have survived or thrived the way it did. Greek culture influenced European, Middle Eastern and Chinese civilizations; without it the world would have been quite different. At the same time, there is also the influence of Judaism, whose holy texts served as the basis for both Christianity and Islam. The founding father of Judaism was Abraham, which makes him pretty influential as well.

Your question has far too many edges. I don't think anyone can claim the most influence into humanity. The greatest institutions the world has seen, who have visibly shaped far more than any individual, are the work of many people, not just one.

Yeshua of Nazareth (Our Lord Jesus) is an obvious answer, since Christianity has shaped and afected the entire world whether you believe in Him or not. But from a strict scientific point of view, he may have not even been the most influential person in establishing Christianity. Saul of Tarsus (St. Paul) and other first fathers of the Church gave Christianity its shape and therefore the claim that one man was the whole founder of Christendom is innacurate. Christ is more than just Jesus, from both a theological and institutional point of view.

All others are feel good answers because we want to think that the person who has influenced the most is familiar to us and did good. In that sense, your parents are probably 1,000,000 times more influential into you than MLK, Newton, Columbus, Jesus, etc.

If you wanted to be all about chaos theory, the most influential person would be the monkey who went down from a tree and started humanity's path. No one else has the right to claim his influence over us.

Of all the men and women born on earth, Jesus Christ is easily the most influential. Despite the fact that His ministry lasted only 3 years and his geographical scope was limited to a small area in the middle-east, it has had a profound impact on society, altering governments, leaders, families and individuals on a global, local and personal level.

Where His teachings have been correctly implemented and adhered to, the results have been productivity, love, cooperation and peace. Where they have been selfishly maligned, there has been corruption, murder, destruction and suffering.

Even famed skeptic and atheist; Orson Wells, when asked this question replied that Jesus Christ was the most influential person.

You may not agree with His teachings, you may not agree that His influence has been generally positive, but his impact cannot be understated. Just the mere mention of His name in a group virtually anywhere on the planet will immediately divide people, some who adore Him and others who resent Him. Few people today have that effect, invoking such strong feelings, especially someone who lived 2000 years ago.

A short, easy read on the subject is Josh McDowell's "More Than A Carpenter". Also read C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity". Most libraries will carry these popular books.

Martin Luther King he had a dream and through his speeches, writing, marches and sadly his death have made segregation a thing thankfully of the past and racism against any race, creed or religion or even sexual orientation will hopefully be a thing of the past to and it will have been born from Martin Luther King's memory and his hard work to get that stone rolling in the first place.

"Jesus Christ" and the consequences he meant up to date for world history.

From the moment he appeared in history things have all changed even up to our times.
In the Byzantine Empire, in the Middle Ages Christianism powerfully influenced the arts, laws, way of thinking and State organization.

It impulsed the Crusades against Islam, permitting Europeans to know the richness of the east and middle east in spices, knowledge, science and art.

The longing and need of the population for these goods, later on impulsed explorers to find a different route by sea to Asia for merchants and countries to get their hands on these richness.

These explorers finally discovered America probably the greatest single fact since our beginnings.

All as a consequence and due to a Jew named Jesus who changed the cruel bloody and harsh relations between men to one of love, equality, pity and justice.
