The answer really is that it depends on where and for whom you work. Most employers have provisions for illness. If you are truely ill, you should call in and let your employer know as soon as possible. If you are not ill, you should not say that you are just to get some time off. You should call rather than having someone else do it.

It depends.
In many states you can get fired for any reason.
If you have sick time, or your company is understanding about illness, if you wake up ill, or the soonest you could call was 2 hours before, Im sure theyll understand.
Not everyone has the luxury of being able to plan to be sick.

no,don't have any one else call for you. It is best that you do this yourself. Also you should always try to call in first thing in the am, as its an inconvenience for your co-workers. If you can go in later do that. As far as getting into trouble you shouldn't but remember if your in VA its a right to work state and they can pretty much do as they please. Also don't make it a habit to call in, as it reflects the type of person you are. Always try to be the best you can and people will know that you are dependable and loyal. Good luck

do not have a family member call in unless you still live with your parents....call in ASAP so they can cover for you and ask them if you need to get a doctors note to prove you were sick.

well it really depends on your employer and your relationship. and i would recommend that you call and not one of your relatives, because if they call your employer may think that you just dont want to talk to him/her because they will hear that you are not really sick, and or your employer may think that you are seriously ill if a relative calls.
