Hi Karteek,
Take the Pune Bangalore National Highway (NH 4)
Distance by road: 835 -850 Km
Route: Bangalore>Tumkur>Chitradurga>
Hubli>Dharwar>Belgaum>Kolhapur>Pune
Now on the Pune-Bangalore route, the fastest train takes about 20-22 hours. The Volvo bus, however, does it comfortably in 15 hours. We are talking about a distance of about 835-850 km though some drivers and operators (http://www.paulotravels.com/tariff.html#) talk about doing this in less than 12 hours.

Ideal and shortest route is from Bangalore to Belgaum to Kohlapur to Satara to Pune to Nasik to Valsad to Surat to Baroda and finally to Udaipur. I have not travelled on this route but I believe as the roads on these trunk routes are NHs so chances are that majority of the sectiond are Good Motorable Roads. Happy Journey.

Distance is about 920 KM (NH-4) . By a Volvo bus I think it will take atleast 16 hours. By flight it will take 1 houre 20 mins ( Air Deccan: DN-668) Fare will be Rs 324 ( Basic Fare) + 1125(Taxes) = 1499 rupees.
Go to airdeccan.net . You can get online ticket there.

Wow.. you are going to be travelling about 1750 Km by Road. Following is the best motorizable route as you'll be on National Highways throughout your journey: NH 4 from Bangalore to Chitradurga (about 200 Km). Then NH 13 from Chitradurga to Solapur via Bijapur (about 430 Km) Then NH 211 to Dhule via Aurangabad (about 450 Km) From Dhule, Take NH - 6 towards Surat and go about 203 Km. Turn right on NH 8 near Umbhel and go to Udaipur on NH-8 (about 500 Km) via Vadodra and Ahmedabad. ********************** Second best route is as suggested by “Buddy” above is also detailed below. Distance will be about 1800 Km and is a good option but you’ll be driving about 150 Km on State Highway (SH) instead of National Highway (NH) between Nasik and Valsad: From Bangalore, take NH 4 to Pune (835 Km) Then NH 50 to Nasik (205 Km) Take SH-67 from Nasik to Valsad about 152 Km and turn right on NH 8 just before reaching Valsad. Take NH8 to Udaipur (600 Km) via Vadodra and Ahmedabad. *********** There are other alternative shorter routes too. One of the alternative routes below will save you about 150 Km but I’m not sure about the road conditions: Follow the same route from Bangalore to Dhule as above. Then take NH 3 towards Indore for 127 Km and turn left on MP-SH 26 near Julwaniya Road (This turn is about 25 Km after you pass Sendhava on NH 3). Go about 67 Km to Kukshi on SH-26 and turn right at SH-26 and go 16 Km to Jaminyapura. At Jaminyapura, turn left go about 29 Km to Jobat and turn slightly left and after about 14 Km, turn right on SH-58. Go about 85 Km to Jhalod via Dohad. Turn left SH-2 and go about 30 Km to Santrampur and turn right on SH-152. After about 6 Km turn left at SH-152 at Ukhreli and go about 30 Km to Punawara. Turn Right and go to Dungarpur (about 53 Km) and turn left on SH-10 Go 20 Km and turn right on NH 8 and go to Udaipur (about 80 Km). **************** You should definitely halt at Aurangabad and visit Ellora Caves and may be other historical attractions like Daulatabad Fort,
