Hi there,

it is quite easy to know when you are fertile by charting your cycles. Modern methods of Natural Family Planning are over 99% effective and learning to chart your cycles is a great way of understanding how your body works!

Start by taking your temperature every morning when you wake up. It will rise slightly when you ovulate (12-16 days before your next period) and will stay higher until your period comes. Once released your egg remains viable for fertilisation for just 12-24 hours.
Also keep an eye on your mucus. It will become stretchy like egg white as you approach ovulation. Sperm can survive for up to 5 days in this most fertile mucus.

When trying to concieve it is recommended that you have intercouse every other day during the week before your temperature rises and for a day or two after.

The Couple to Couple League run classes and have an excellent home study course, which I can highly recommend, if you want to learn more about NFP and charting. You can also enter your cycles into FertilityFriend.com.

Make sure you are taking your pte-natal vitamins and Good Luck!

Just going by the generic 14 days after your period is not useful for everyone. It's a misconception that we all ovulate on day 14. The only way you'll know is by learning your own personal fertility signs. This means learning to recognize your fertile cervical fluid. When it is of egg white consistency, this is your most fertile time. You can measure your temperature each morning and when you notice a shift and sustained high temperatuires, you know you have already ovulated. Ovulation predictor kits (OPK) are also useful and can tell you when you've released the hormone LH, which signals ovulation. You should ovulate a day or 2 after a +OPK.

The fertile period should between 10 and 18 days of when your period started. You may notice very slight discomfort in the lower back when the ovarian follicle lets the egg out.

You'll also notice, if you check it at the same time every morning and keep a careful record, that your temperature will rise by a small amount around this time too - that's when you're at your most fertile.

This is a simple and free way to do that. Counting the first day you started your period count 14 days, on the 14,15, and 16th day are the three days you are ovulating. It only took 2 months for my to conceive my youngest daughter doing just this. Hope this helped, Good luck! :)

Use an ovulation kit - you can get them from most chemists or off the internet. Chart yourself for a couple of months and you should notice a pattern.

you can get good tests now to predict but usually you have more discharge and you will experience a rise in body temperature, if you want to find out keep a chart of your temp each day, noramlly when it rises and you are well that could signal ovulation.

Its 14 days after your first day of your period. That's when you ovulate. If you are on birth control it is 7 days after your last placebo pill
