Clio "Expression" 16v 2003 with Quickshift 5. Handbook says fuel tank "Useful capacity" is 50l., but only comment on warning light is "fill up... as soon as possible". Assumption is normal careful driving on open road.

i wouldnt take a risk of running out of fuel.. usually about 2 gallons of fuel remain when the light comes on

I got a Vauxhall Corsa 1 litre & when the red light comes on I can usually get 35-40 miles but wouldnt recommend it cos in the long run u will have to pay for damaging your fuel pump etc

The remaining fuel in your tank varies by car...contact your car manufacturer for the info. I have a Ford Focus ZX3 and when my low fuel light comes on I have about 1 gallon left in the tank.

I can drive my clio about 40 miles (approx) with the petrol warning light on, and often have to due to lack of funds. However, I have ran out of petrol once which was a horrid & highly embarrassing experience, and apparently it's also very bad for your car.

I force a Ford Mondeo a million.8 diesel and function 50 miles left whilst the warning gentle comes on. uncertain if the 50 miles mark is a known on all Fords yet I constantly replenish at as quickly as away so under no circumstances get to ensure if it is the case.

On most vehicles, the low fuel light is for reference purpose only. Usually, you should have 30-40 mi (50-70km) left but it varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle because the most common float-type sensor is less than accurate.

you'll be alright for about 30 miles but don't let it get too low because you risk clogging the fuel filter. What the light means is "fill it up next time you pass a garage".

It isn't accurate enough to be relied upon, it's just giving you a "heads up". Varies for car to car, even in the same model. Time to be looking for a fill-up.

Usually that means you have one gallon left.
Course, I did notice you mentioned liters...Do the conversion..
