But, if we didn't work, we couldn't provide for a family. In France they work like 35 hour weeks and have 2 months of vacation.

That is living the life!

Well if they lower our taxes then perhaps we could survive without the excessive work week and hours. We are the leading world economy and it's because of the INSANE expectations employers place on all of us and by the way why dont compair the loosers in france to the great American people. Hey why aren't you working instead of asking questions? Are you on the company's time right now? If so get back to work.

Yes, in Germany their average work week is 45 hours. Have you heard that 95% are working to make the other 5% rich. That is why. We are raised to have to work for other people and it does take time away from our valued family. Most people don't know there's other ways to stay at home, make an income, and spend quality time with our family that will never be replaced. See my profile!

The normal work week in the U.S. is only five more hours than in France. Many people do not enjoy being with their families for two full months. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Yes, it is sad. America is all about the dollar and impressing others. Forget quality, customer service, loyalty, environmental issues, etc.
It's great to be able to work as much or as hard as you want and get appropriately reward. The downside to this is the quality of life and, as you say, the time available for life outside work, family, friends, etc.

I know what you mean, I have often thought what if we could retire when we are young, get our ss benifits when our children are under 18 life would be better. Now that my kids are grown, I dont feel the need to be home any more not like I did when my boys were young. Once they turned of age they did their own thing and had no nee to be with me.

Depends if you like your family. :) But it's true, in Europe we have more free time. In Switzerland people even come home for lunch for 1.5 hours to eat at their moms.
