I thought is was a person who was afraid of homos. I personally find this lifestyle digusting but i am not afraid of them.

Who said anything about hating them. If I meet a gay i won't insult him or anything but I wouldn't neccesarily hang with him either

It isn't simply a fear of homosexuals. Phobia refers to an IRRATIONAL fear, and has a huge implication of hatred. For instance, arachnophobia is not simply a person who is afraid of spiders. It is a person who HATES spiders, who wants to kill all spiders that they encounter, not someone who just has a simple fear of them. Homophobia is a similar concept. Homophobic people want gays to be eliminated; want them to have no part in society; who find what they do disgusting and so perverted that they cannot deal with them rationally. It simply implies that the person who is called homophobic is so bothered by the fact that someone is gay that they cannot rationally deal with them. The problem that needs to be corrected is in the homophobic person, not the homosexuals!
Demon Doll below is correct. Simply disagreeing with our lifestyle does not make you a homophobe. But using your disagreement as an excuse to abuse us, bash us, and insult us DOES make you a homophobe.

The term homophobe means "A person with a fear of or a strong aversion to homosexuals."
Not 'agreeing with homosexuality' is like not agreeing with gravity. Regardless of whether or not you like homosexuality, it exists and will continue to exist.

You are only a homophobe if you are afraid of homosexuals. If you're not afraid of them, then you're not a homophobe. Not agreeing with their lifestyle doesn't in any way make you a homophobe.
