Absolutely. There IS a look they are going for, but if someone is super-super-super good at singing, they'll let them through. But they gotta be ROCKIN and outta this world good.

You have to sing exceptionally well if you are fat, or look funny according to the twisted way society sees celebrities!

The reason there are more pretty people than ugos is because pretty people have more confidence to get up there.

Absolutely looking for a certain look. They are ultimately going to own the Idol's career for quite some time, so I guess in a way they are protecting their own interests.
I feel its just business and not personal. Plus, its entertainment! That's why we watch this crap every year...it has gotten to be rather entertaining.

Your voice could do it alone.
Look at famous singers that was fat like Janis Joplin.
Its in the voice.
