Egypt is not Far East. Egypt is Africa! Apparently though, it is considered by some to be Near East, probably due to its greater affinity to that region than to Africa.
These are not hard and fast terms, but in my mind, Near East are Asian countries bordering the Mediterranean such as Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and Israel. The Middle East are those countries east of the Mediterranean and west of India such as Iraq, Iran, and other Gulf States. Far East are countries east of India such as Japan and Thailand.

The Far East is not Egypt; Egypt is often referred to as part of the Near East, or the Middle East, and its even lumped in with the rest of Southwest Asia because of its cultural and religious ties.
The Far East is a term that usually refers to the far east of Asia along the Pacific rim, and thus includes Japan, the Koreas, China and Taiwan. Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia) are usually not included by the term.
Of course, it's all very subjective; when flying to the Far East from the US you actually go west, so it might be the Far West. Definitions will differ.

Far East: A Eurocentric term often used for East Asia and Southeast Asia combined, sometimes including also the easternmost territories of Russia, i.e., Russian Far East, and the western Pacific Ocean region. (It will usually include India, Pakistan, etc as well).
Middle East: Another Eurocentric term used to describe the countries of Southwest Asia & North Africa -- usually considered as including the countries extending from Libya on the West to Afghanistan on the East
Near East: A term commonly used by archaeologists and historians, less commonly by journalists and commentators, to refer to the region encompassing the Levant (modern Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), Anatolia (modern Turkey), Mesopotamia (Iraq and eastern Syria), and the Iranian Plateau (Iran). An alternative non-Eurocentric designation in recent years has been 'Southwest Asia', although this term has yet to achieve widespread use.
If (for some reason) the relative positions of everything were moved - say, for instance, the definitions were no longer Eurocentric, but were in fact centered in another portion of the globe. Then having Egypt fall into the 'Far East' category would probably put Europe itself as the 'Middle East', and the Americas (both North and South) as the 'Near East'.

I thought Egypt was Africa. Middle East is the area around the Persian Gulf, while the Far East is South-East Asia, Indonesia, etc.
There isn't anywhere commonly known as "Near East", although it could refer to anywhere from Turkey, through the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

Egypt is in the Near East.
The Far East is eastern Asia, like India, China, Japan, Korea and so on. The Middle East is the cradle of civilization, like Israel and Iraq.

I've read that the Far East is China and Japan, so I would say that Egypt is only a bus journey away east and Essex is the near east for me, if you live in London, Essex is the near east, or is it East London? :S (not the one in South Africa by the way, East London in London)
