I'm not sure why everyone on here is pointing fingers at certain groups of people but the concept of the doomsday clock is fairly simple. Way back in the day a group of scientists made up a metaphoric clock. They announce when the hands move closer to midnight "doomsday" based on events in the world.

For the most part doomsday has been seen as simply a nuclear war, however, this time they cited global warming also when they moved the hands forward again. This is at least what I believe it's all about I've never done any research so If I'm wrong somebody please set me strait.

And to those people who are taking this chance to bad mouth democrats/liberals I don't really see what your problem is. If you still think global warming is a hoax then I hope your one of the billions of people that will eventually end up underwater. As for democrats wasting time remember that the 109th congress set a record for fewest days worked by any congress.

there have been thousands of those hoaxes for an prolonged time. James Randi indexed a number of the foremost ones in his e book "The mask of Nostradamus". There are some the thank you to make funds preaching doom. some frauds sell books approximately their rubbish, some have web content with commercials. some extort funds from suckers, as Harold camping out and Nostradamus did. I heard camping out made hundreds of thousands along with his numerous end of the international hoaxes.

It's a method to provide an indication as to how safe or unsafe scientists believe we are and to provide an indication to how close we are to an end to civilization. When instituted over 60 years ago, it was set to 7 minutes to midnight, and in 1953 was actually set to 2 minutes to midnight when both the Soviet Union and US tested Hydrogen Bombs. By 1991 it has been set back to 17 minutes to midnight upon the US/Soviet signing on the non-proliferation treaty. Since then it had drifted back to 7 minutes to midnight, and most recently been set to 5 minutes to midnight, in consideration of the problems associated with Global Warming. It's simply a method to indicate the risk to our planet, from weapons and degradation of the environment.

I think it's just a measure of how much damage we're doing to the planet. It's a metaphor of sorts.

The point is to instill fear into little minds.
There is nothing to learn there.

In the Democrats case, how much time is actually spent working - which amounts to not much at all!
