Depends. Some people it is dangerous. Some people get worse and have to be hospitalized the entire pregnancy. For me, the symtoms seemed to have "disappeared." I'm on pregnancy number 2 and my first is 1 year old. So for almost 2 years now, I've been symptom free. It's different for everyone. Just make sure your OB knows.

I am Bi-Polar and was very stable on Meds when I was suprised with my pregnancy. I had to immediately wean off one medication and was told I could continue with Lamictal- a mood stablizer but it increased the risk of my baby having cleft lip. I looked up pictures of the birth defect and decided to stop taking it also. Now I feel very violent and angry. I am going to see a pysch today to see if there are some alternative medications that will help without any risks to my child. The changes in horomones along with the predisposition to depression is very hard to deal with on your own. I thought I could just handle everything alone but I can't. Maybe that is my own weakness but you need a friend or someone to talk to. I am unhappy with the father's drinking problem and this is often the cause of my feelings. This makes it harder. I have been shutting everyone out and I am recognizing now that I am making myself miserable and in order to make sure I am doing the right things for my baby I need to make sure that I am okay.

It could be dangerous. Are you taking medications? If you are, you will need to adjust to lower doeses, which can affect your moods. You may even need to completely stop some medications or switch to others. This is something you should definitely discuss with you doctor and your spouse. You will need plenty of support during your pregnancy. Good luck.

This is a question that you should really ask your OB. Depression can be harmful for sure.
Mild depression can usually be treated with diet and exercise, but if you have SEVERE depression, your doc needs to find an anti-depressant that's safe for you, but that WON'T throw you into a manic phase.
PLEASE talk to your doctor.
The very best of luck to you.

well this is something you are def going to have to discuss with your dr. Things like if you can or should continue taking your medication while pregnant (im assuming you are on meds for this?), the effects of hormones. I can tell you hormones are crazy during pregnancy, which most def could make your deperession worse. Im sure there are ways to get through it though. BEst of luck.

Honestly, you have to talk to your doctor. Are you already pregnant or planning on it? When my sister was planning on becoming pregnant her doc didn't want her off her meds too long so they put her on Clomid to help the "trying" along. She did well throughout her pregnancy. However, after the baby came, she had to get back on her meds quite quickly because she started to slip. You and your doc need to come up with a game plan. Its do-able, good luck!

pregnancy can cause mood swings so if you have manic depression, keep it under control by taking med and counseling.
Talk to your dr about which med you can take during pregnancy.
good luck

Your pregnancy can go as normal as can be. When you must be very aware is during the port partum period. Keep in touch with your psychiatrist at all times during the first months of your baby.
