I wouldn't worry too much. Babies go through several growth spurts, and sometimes they sleep through them. They also go through periods where they just want to be held all day. It's absolutely normal. At the same time, if you really feel that something is wrong, call the doctor. But I suspect he's just wanting his mommy.

he may have a cold or something.
i know my baby sleeps alot when he's sick, but it's usually accompanied by a fever.
if he's feeling under the weather but no fever, then he gets a fever, take him to the doctor. that usually means bacterial and can be treated with antibiotics.
if he starts with a fever and is just a bit under the weather, then give him some tylenol and let him rest, b/c it's most likely viral.
however, you want to be aware if he seems to be getting better and then he gets a fever again, b/c then he could have developed an ear infection or something else from his initial cold.
also, if he even has a mild temp, at 2 months you should consult your pediatrician. also, consult your pediatrician on the proper dosage of infant drops tylenol. everyone seems to be told something different from their pediatrician.
another thought is just that he is just plain changing his routine. babies will go through stages where they will sleep more than they eat, eat more than they sleep and sometimes they won't want to do either very much and they'll just play all day!
my 4 month old usually goes to bed around 8-8:30 pm but for some reason, last night he fell asleep at about 7pm and was out for the night. very strange, but i guess he just needed some extra zzzzz's.
take care:)

It's probably nothing, I know growth spurts make them tired sometimes. Babies go through all kinds of changes that you will see from one day to the next. I have a 10 month old who has been sleeping through the night for a long time now and for a stretch he started waking up at night again, I was like YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. But it was only a few days, maybe he had a little bug or something, who knows. If you are worried call your pediatrician during normal daytime hours, they are very used to calls from concerned moms. Good luck! And enjoy the sleep while you can because my bet is your baby will be back bouncing off the walls again in no time. :)

My son is 11 weeks old now and did this same thing when he was 6 weeks old (he was also a preemie / 6 wks early). I called the Dr. and they got him in same day because he also would not eat....8 hrs....(not good)
Ended up being a UTI...needed antibiotics, but he also did not have a fever until later that evening...102 at that point.
Is your baby eating ok? You can check also to see if he is dehydrated by his soft spot (if more indented then usual he could be dehydrated).....
He also could just be tired...I would call the Dr anyway, your child is so young yet. Did you take a rectal? All other thermometer are more inaccurate at this age.
Good luck, its so scary isn't it when there so darn tiny yet....I'm sure your child is fine, but call Dr. anyway if you are the least bit concerned.

If there is a distinct change in sleeping or eating habits at such a young age I would take him to the doctor. Follow your instincts. You'll be happy you did. A fever is not the only reason to take an infant to the doctor. Good Luck!

is he waking up eat every 4-5 hrs? (2-3 hrs if hes breastfeeding) Is he yellow lookin? My baby would stay up most of the day and then "catch up" on her sleep for a day or two. Scared the crap out of me but she was fine. You can put a call in to your doc to be safe. They will ask you questions to see if theres anything wrong with him.

He probably just has a cold. Just hold him and love him. If he gets a temp or if he is sleeping like this for more than 3 days, call the doc. But he probably just has a little bug. Enjoy it.

he's probably just going through a growth spurt. babies tend to sleep a lot when they are having one. my almost 4 month old had that phase. for a while she was up most of the day, but a couple weeks ago she slept almost all day for about 4 days. she was fine, i took her to the doctor and he told me the growth spurt thing. i wouldn't be worried unless he starts getting symptoms of something else.

My daughter does the same thing...
It is just this week where she is going for 2 naps only....
Does your baby sleep at night? If so, I wouldn't be too concerned....babies will wake when they are ready. I found too that playing with my daughter and keeping ehr enterainted helped keep her awake.

Babies do this when theyre fighting a cold bug, or havnig a growth spurt. So long as he's eating you're fine.
They also do this after getting their vaccinations.
