He is a private man and not outspoken or considered a "genius" like a Walsh. All things considered equal I'll take those 1970's Steelers team against any other dynasty in football history. The most dominant defense year after year. The offense was underrated as it was very explosive, and could also grind it out with Harris and Bleier. It takes a special person of great resolve,an astute eye for talent and the ability to coach all those different personalities (egos). To keep them motivated to win.

Several reasons...

1. It's been almost 30 years since his last SB victory.

2. Those teams pre-date free agency and the salary cap, so the accomplishment is deemed "easier" without those constraints in the age of parity.

3. For the reasons mentioned under #2, the Steelers stayed together, were healthy, and were able to keep their core intact.

4. Everyone "ooohs and ahhs" over Bill Walsh and the West Coast Offense, and it's iterations in today's NFL. Pittsburgh played hard, fundamental football, but isn't perhaps viewed as sexy.

5. He didn't wear a hoodie.

6. He never had more than 10 wins after 1980, only 2 playoff victories, and sort of faded into the sunset. He ended with a fizzle.

He was a great coach no doubt. It's unfair, but he'll settle for all that hardware.

Yes, I think it is underrated, it is different to anything else on TV. A great mix of people on a coach tour. I must say it brings out the worst in people, how bitchy they can be (cruel sometimes), particularly young against old. Brendan has the patience of 'Job'. I only hope it doesn't put people off going on coach tours; I've been on a few and met some lovely, friendly people.

He had no great love for sportswriters or media in general, so that could be why you don't hear more about him. No doubt he was a great coach, and the Steelers Super Bowl teams are all you need to see it. I'm a Raiders fan, and could barely bring myself to write this....:)

Chuck was a very modest man and he credits a lot of his success to his defensive coordinators and his very talented players.

It's easy coaching 11 hall of famers he once stated.
