These are not your father's Democrats. Men like JFK, Harry Truman, and FDR would find today's crop as alien as Klingons. They seem to believe the US is responsible for every conceivable evil in the world, they have no belief whatsoever in personal responsibility (remember Truman's "The buck stops here" line? Now can you imagine Bill Clinton saying it?), and they seem to have completely forgotten the concept of Loyal Opposition.

I could have voted for a man like Harry Truman, but there's no way I could ever vote for one of today's crowd of yapping socialists who call themselves Democrats.

Anya: You should ask for a refund on that dictionary you have. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/patriot
Socialism is NEVER the right answer. I'll be responsible for me and you be responsible for you. You do not have a right to my money.

Page: My dictionary defines "patriotism" as " Love of and devotion to one's country." Pretty straightforward. I'm sure you believe it has something to do with obstructing the administration. Guess what? It doesn't.

critter: I'm no big fan of FDR's creeping socialism, but you are wayyyyyyy off the mark regarding his take on involvement in the war. Remember Lend-Lease? He wanted to get involved as early as 1939, but was restrained by an isolationist Congress.

I believe they have. I wish I could find an answer done by someone else here on Yahoo Answers, because it was great. It said basically that besides those Democrats who just plain want America to lose, there is a large segment that just can't say they want America to win, because it would give a plus to the Bush column. Never mind how a loss would hurt the US as far as making every 2-bit dictator want to push us.

First of all not all Dems are unpatriotic. I do agree that a large % are anti war even if war is the best route ( I know some will say that it is never the best route and I say what about WWII). I do think by making the Commander in Chief out to be a criminal dictator based on opinion and not on fact during a time of war is unpatriotic (even if you say right after that you support our troops) because it plays right into the propaganda war of the enemy. There are people on both sides that IMO are working against the effort in Iraq and don't feel they are hurting a thing but I think that is just because they lack understanding and not because they want to hurt the country. Even if the president makes bad decisions he was ellected by our democratic process and as such he should get support in public. If you don't like what he does then vote him out or in GB's case wait it out.

FDR was a socialist too. Remember the "New Deal"? It was the beginning of welfare, social security, and other socialist programs. It kept us in the Great Depression for 8 years (1933-1941). He was also a pacifist like today's Democrats. He did nothing while Hitler conquered all of Europe (1939-1941). He only got involved when we were attacked directly.

Truman and JFK were decent.

I understand your thinking but you have to remember that the politics of politics was going on way before JFK or Truman.

If I were you I would take my frustrations out on government in general. Once you tie your self up in things like who's best to run our country, you begin to think just like the elite want you to. That is, when you focus on the president you tend to forget about the real issues like: Why is our national debt so high we can never pay it off? Or, why do we keep electing people that we think need to be there because of their experience? I am positive our founding father set up our system to safeguard against these thing but, every day, year, four or six year term, and decade we get the same rhetoric that keeps us from looking at the real issues. We have oil why do we buy it? We don't approve of dictators but still give them money.... I could go on but, I just want to give you an alternative way to think about this hole that politicians started digging 40 years ago!

I would direct my energy to people who continue to vote for the Ted Kennedy's or John McCain's because of name recognition or that stupid thought "They have experience". With out common sense experience doesn't mean spit!

Kind of like how the republicans have devolved from what they were with Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. It goes both ways. How did the GOP become the party of greed and elitism?

No one has done more harm to the integrity of America than the present President and his administration. Don't take my word for it, the Brits say so, The French says so, everyone thinks so.

define patriotic? Your question is relative to your specific definition of the word "patriotism." To me, it is more patriotic to go against the government if I disagree with it than to blindly follow a leadership that doesn't know it's head from it's...well, you get the idea lad.
