What is the proper equitte in asking a professor for a reference when transferring to a university? When applying I was requirred to give information to about two teachers to give me references and where to contact them. Does this mean the college has already informed them? If the college informed me they only need my college and high school transcript?

When you would like to transfer to a new college (hopefully between semesters), just ask the teacher for their reference. Say that this is a good opportunity for you, and you would appreciate their help. If you did well in your class, they will probably be happy to give you one! If you have already put them down as references, most likely, they will be contacting them (if they haven't already). You should probably tell the teachers that you listed ASAP, so that they are ready for your new school to contact them. If they say that the school already contacted them, apologize that you did not tell them beforehand and thank them. Most likely, the new school won't be using your references as a deciding factor for whether or not you are admitted. It has much much more to do with your grades.

Proper etiquette is to ask before submitting. The college may have informed them but my suggestion is to go to them and let them know that you gave their names. Then ask them if they would be willing to write you a letter of recommendation. It will all work out.
