guess i must be filipino and didnt even know it...i do it too and im 100% american...

Ha, that's funny. My sweet step-mother does that and so do all of her sisters. In fact, my half-sisters do it too and their only half filipino. I've never seen a filipino man do that, and I've never seen any of them do it when their in a restaraunt. Come to think of it I even do it when I'm at home, and I'm not filipino. Do you think I learned it from her? My guess is that it's just comfortable.
Later: Oooh, wait. I have seen a filipino man do it -- my step-nephew. He's gay. Hmmm.

It's one of the habits we do in the Philippines that is very seldom corrected. Only by those who knew it is wrong. Since almost everyone is doing it, it is widely accepted and people here does not have any idea that it looks ackward.
