I agree with you, BBC has had its day, scrap the TV Licence, let them show adverts like everyone else to earn their money, its about time they actually listened to the people who pay their wages.
Some one said its good if you have digital?
ok first you have to pay to get the digital reciever, then you have to pay for your tv licence, then you recieve a few channels of which most are bloody repeats or utter tripe.
All the other terrestrial channels are FREE even with digital, ITV, ITV2, ITV3, C4, E4, C5 plus loads more, if BBC started showing adverts it would be a lot cheaper for the general public who have enough to pay out as it is.

You really have got to get over the idea that you pay a licence fee for BBC and the other channels are free. That just isn't true. The licence fee is paid for the right to operate a television set (and all channels get some revenue from the licence money) whether you watch BBC or not. You have to have licences for many things. Driving a car whether you have a car or not. Having a car on the road whether you drive it or not. Fishing whether you catch anything or not. And on and on licences go.
As to repeats the BBC don't have a monopoly in this area. How about Channel Five, Channel Four, ITV 1,and every other channel that fills our airwaves over and over again with mindless drivel In this world you only ever get what you pay for and many times much, much less than you expect.

The BBC is OK, I think I would continue to pay for it given the choice, but the point is we don't currently have a choice. I think it would be better to be allowed to choose to pay the BBC and therefore receive BBC channels or not to pay the BBC and not get BBC channels - like any other TV package.

Now that we have subscription TV in the UK it seems very wrong that it is against the law to have a TV and not subscribe to the BBC.

The BBC isnt good value for money. It`s about t ime they started operating as CH4 and ITV do , being funded with adverts and sponsorship etc. We are charged to need a license even tho we only watch other stations. But because we have tv`s that are capable of receiving BBC we have to pay it. That has to be wrong.

No I don't think it is good value for the licence fee. Why should we pay to fund the World Service for instance. Why should we pay to fund so many radio stations, web sites, TV channels. It should be funded by advertising like all other channels and come into the real world.

You can get basic Sky for a year for about the same price as getting BBC, its a rip off. They show some good programs now and then but its few and far between so they need to sort themselves out.

Absolutely not. I watch virtually nothing on BBC and really resent having to pay for something that I don't even use. I would happily have adverts on BBC and let it be funded that way.

As someone who lived in the UK and is now back home, I can say I dearly miss the BBC and think it was worth every penny! Commercial tv can really stink.
