Most any industrial hardware store will have what you need. You didn't say where you are located, but here in Southern California I go to McFadden-Dale Hardware, which has an amazing assortment of springs, nuts, bolts, tools, and many other items. It's far beyond the limited selection you'll find at Home Depot.

McMaster-Carr has an online catalog with what must be millions of items, including the extension springs you are seeking. They offer 1-2 day delivery within the US if you order early enough in the day. Click on the link below for a selection chart. I have ordered from them with complete satisfaction.

Depends where you are located. Redditch, Worcestershire is the spring capital of the UK. Try Springmasters, http://www.springmasters.com/ Look for an engineering supplies stockist. B&Q and Homebase are not likely to stock that sort of thing.

I've seen them on storm / aluminum home doors for closers...even large ones on overhead door installations...but no idea what size you require. If you require a beefier spec, dry a bearing /industial supply house.
Good luck

Try motor factors/car accessory shops. They are quite often used for throttle return springs etc.

Try an upholsterer they use them a lot. If they haven't got them , they can tell you where to get them.
