Because they want to believe them. They want to believe that things are that easy, that they don't have to worry about anything. No more going to the doctor, filling prescriptions, getting injections, etc. Just drink a Pepsi! or if the condom broke, no worries. Just stand on your head!
I think the Pepsi thing actually got started by people believing that doucheing with Pepsi would kill the sperm because of the acid or carbonation. And somehow that mutated into just drinking one, which makes no sense whatsoever.

They believe because they want to believe. Because apparently buying condoms is too hard. I mean I've probably bought condoms 50 times in my life and I know that the cashier always gives me a hard time... oh wait no they don't, they don't care at all (Except when I go to the condom specialty shop then they make sure that I have the right oen, which is good because I almost bought spermicide ones once and I am allergic)

Standing on your head definitely INCREASES the chances of conception because it keeps the spermal protozoa heading toward the uterus - weaker "swimmers" get an extra push and increase the possibility of conception.
The pepsi stuff is funny.

Seriously, pepsi is wasting their time not advertising their product as a contraceptive.
They could have so many great slogans like:
"Pepsi, keep's him OUT of you" or "Pepsi, for those intimate moments"
lol.

I don't think the idea is for her to "drink" the Pepsi.
I believe the general concept is that it can be used as an easily-available douche, to help reduce the chance of sperm implantation.
