well, nancy pelosi vowed to start making changes in the first 100 hours of the democrats control of congress. 5 out of 6 of the goals have passed. the complete article is on yahoo right now:
Make the government negotiate for lower Medicare prescription drug prices. It passed last Friday.
_Expand federally funded stem cell research. It passed Jan. 11.
_Raise the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour over 26 months. It passed Jan. 10.
_Bolster terrorism-fighting efforts with more cargo inspections. It passed Jan. 9.
Democrats also won approval of internal House rule changes dealing with ethics, lobbying and budgeting. They were passed on Jan. 4-5, the first two days of the new Congress.
the sixth measure, an energy bill with $15 billion in new fees, royalties and taxes for the oil industry, should be passed today, meaning they've accomplished their first six goals within the first 50 hours!
i'd say things look like they'll be getting done around here.

Nothing will be done to help build the middle class, which is vital to the suvival of a democracy. It time to remove the aristocrats from power. Thomas Jefferson wrote in an 1826 letter to Will B. Giles "now look to a single and splendid government of an aristocracy, founded on banking institutions, and moneyed incorporations under the guise and cloak of their favored branches of manufactures, commerce and navigation, riding and ruling over the plundered ploughman and beggared yeomanry. This will be to them a next best blessing to the monarchy of their first aim, and perhaps the surest steppingstone to it."

Actually, if history has shown anything, a lot of stuff actually gets done when there are opposite parties in control of Congress and the White House.
When both are one party, the minority party in Congress lollygags and mucks up the works in order for the other to appear non-effective. But when both sides control a piece, they want to appear bipartisan, and they are more likely to compromise.
But who knows in today's political arena? It's a lot more vicious.

Actually, Rahm Emanuel has all but stated that the Democrats don't see any responsibility on them to solve anything. They're still gonna just blame Bush and not do anything, even in the majority.

What are you talking about? We are now funding embryonic stem cell research when it has been proven time and time again that it produces nothing. There will be much more BS coming out of them to steal money from your wallet for useless crap too, so brace yourself. The democrats count on the ignorance of their constituents. They are rarely disappointed.
