To say the was the "greatest ever" is quite an overstatement. But, he was a major influence on what rock & roll is today. He pushed the envelope when America's youth didn't even know there was an envelope to push. Sadly, by the seventies, he had come somewhat of a joke, but his death redeemed his status. Which, is where all the speculation came that he wasn't actually dead. I am a HUGE Elvis fan, but I do not believe the was the "greatest". There are many many more fantastic musicians of that era that are just as good, if not more talented than the King himself.

well u obviously weren't around at the beginning of rock and roll, boy. had u been, u would know that is a stupid question to ask since he (ELVIS PRESLEY) set the standard to which all rock music is judged by, u cant over rate an original, visionary, creator, inventor,a man before his time, a rebel, a revolutionary in/of/ the music world, domestic and internationally. go ANYWHERE on the PLANET and mention his name , they will recognize his name and how much they LOVE his music, even to this day, and probably sing one of his songs to u as well. no modern day music artist can rival that kind of recognition. when even living legends consider ELVIS PRESLEY the greatest ever then u best believe it, cause that's not overrating him, that's telling you he's bonafide..junior! greatest ever? "HELL YEAH"! HE INVENTED IT, HELLO! rock n roll ya'll

I don't think he is over rated. Many of the great musicians of the last 25 years credit Elvis as the person who first influenced them to get into the music business. They also credit him with originating the rock/pop music explosion by bringing it to the forefront during his lifetime of recording and performing.

I have to totally agree with you. I like Elvis myself. He was different for his time and people tend to remember that.
