Horse does. Of course if it were a pony, the bear might have a shot. Watched a wildlife program on tv and it has a herd or horses running away from a bear who was after the foals.

If I was between a bear and a horse, I'd run faster toward the horse.

If the bear was chasing the horse, I would guess the horse would run faster. The horse has more to lose than the bear in this situation. Now if I were chasing the bear, I would hope my psychiatrist was chasing me!

actually a bear and a horse can both run up to over speeds of 50 mph..... depending on the horse and the bear, depends on which is faster. like how fit and shape they are in....... if any one of u would have looked it up instead of just answering u would have known they both can run at the same speeds(just about anyways)

Well, in a sprint (short distance) probably the horse. A grizzly bear has a top speed of 35 mph while a top Thoroughbred racehorse can run at 45 mph. Now, if you mix up the variables and put in someone's unfit backyard pony well, then the bear. If you change the bear that will change the equation, too. Polar bears top out at 25 mph. It also depends on each individual animal's level of fitness and health and the distance.

Bears can't run on roads so depends what surface they were on.

The horse would probably be scared and would run faster due to adrenaline (if in a race)

But bears can move pretty fast for thier size! Like hippos...

Walking and Running

bears walk, at an average speed of five to six kilometers per hour, more often than they run. Females with small cubs slow their speed to two and a half to four kilometers per hour.

bears are well known for their slow, plodding gait. Though able to gallop as fast as a horse for a short distance, they prefer a leisurely amble to a brisk pace.

According to a study by Norwegian scientist Nils Oritsland, bears expend more than twice the energy used by most other mammals when walking or running. This is probably due to the bear's bulky body.

The energy required to chase down prey explains the bear's preference for still-hunting. A resting bear expends 13 times less energy than a walking bear — and much less than a running bear.

bears rarely charge after snow geese when walking through a colony. Canadian scientist Nick Lunn believes that the numbers show why: for a dash lasting longer than 12 seconds, the calories spent on the chase would exceed those gained by a catch.

bears can run as fast as 40 kilometers per hour, but only for short distances. They are so well padded with fat that they quickly overheat, even in cold weather.

Younger, leaner bears are the best runners. They can cover two kilometers without stopping. Older, larger bears, however, quickly become too hot.

HORSE
The speed of the running walk can be divided in to three different groups; slow, medium and increased. Slow running walk is very tiring for the horse because the back hooves pace heavily under. In medium running walk paces get longer and speed rises. In increased running walk it looks as if the horse dances it way forward, as fast as it coulds, almost in the same speed as in gallop. A good horse can perform all three speeds of running walk without loosing his rhythm or balance.

Pass is a pace where the hooves of the same side of the horse move almost at the same time. Riding speed in pass is always very fast and the best horses can reach the speed of 40 kilometres per hour. Normally in riding, shifting to pass is done after riding gallop .

hey both of them can run rapidly when they are in a trouble. but according to the truth horse runs more faster and its legs have a great running capacity than that of the bear. that is why the english word horsepower revealed its origin. is the speed of the horse which we have it has horsepower.
