Last night I reinstalled XP onto a freshly (and incorrectly) formatted computer. Everything appears to be working okay, the only trouble is that when I plug in the Wireless USB Adapter the computer doesn't recognize that I'm plugging anything into the USB. I checked under Network Connections in the Control Panel, and normally there are a couple things there that say LAN and Wireless connections...now it's completely blank.
I called the helpdesk for the Wireless adapter, but all their "help" involves right-clicking on the wireless tab within that page, and for me there's nothing there to click.
If anyone could offer some helpful advice, I would sincerely appreciate it!

I'm not sure exactly how I'm supposed to "download" drivers? The issue is that I'm unable to get online via my wireless usb and/or my usb connections entirely...so where would I be downloading these "drivers" from? And which drivers might those be? If my PC isn't recognizing the USB hub at all, would buying another wireless usb adapter (with cd) make any difference? I have the cd that came with the one I have, it's installed, but does not respond as the computer doesn't realize it even HAS a usb port ...or so it appears. So that being said: how does someone who can't get online, get these drivers replaced? And also, one answer says I need to replace/repair all the drivers I removed during the reinstall...how would I know what those are?

First of all, when you incorrectly formatted your system, did you correct this by reformatting it properly, and how did you incorrectly format it? A disk not formatted properly can wreck havoc on any system!!! Or was the Operating System not installed correctly, which could do the same thing. Second, i understand you can't get online but do you have access from a friend or at work during lunch? Maybe a public library. you may have to try a cyber cafe, as much as i think they suck lol. You managed to make this post so i guess you got online some how!!! You computer should recognize the USB right away and say something, even if it doesn't install anything. And don't worry about going into your system bios (if you even know how) because these are setting best left to a professional, and the USB controller would net be deactivated unless you did it yourself (if you did, then turn it back on silly!!!)

Sometimes even a fresh install can go wrong, if you get to frustrated, or nothing seems to work, then i suggest you reformat again, and install XP again, take your time, make sure you do it all correctly. I would start right now, but you can try other peoples ideas first if you'd like!

Good Luck!!

You USB controller is probably an unknown device at this point, and Windows isn't recognizing it as a USB controller, so plugging anything into it produces no result.

Go to the computer manufacturer's web site, like dell.com if it is a Dell. Search for the drivers for the chipset, usb controller, or anything else you think is not working, and download them.

That should fix the problem.

Start will insalling all the drivers you deleted when your reinstalled XP incorectly. My suggestion is to sart with your network drivers and USB controller drivers as those are most releviant to the situation.

Right click My Computer, left click options, left click disc management. See that there is a + before the ethernet connection and everything else.

Try going into your bios system at startup and make sure your onboard USB's are active.
