Word of mouth is key. Create a promotional flyer offering your current customer and their referral a discount. In other words if client A refers client B you will give client B a discount, and client A a discount next time they use you. Be sure to include the flyer with every invoice. You should also try calling your customers back a couple weeks later to follow-up with them. If they are happy with your service tell them you are just starting out and would they mind giving you a testimonial quote you could use on your advertising. I do this and many are happy to help.

If the best source of business is customers returning, then maybe you need to try to attract more by biting the bullet for a awhile with deep discounts and super deals. Then when you get known, and they return later, you can charge them normal. I think you need a teaser deal first to build a customer base.

Word of mouth is the most powerful, admittedly it is not good for getting the ball rolling, put poster up in your local Asda & Tesco stores that has brought me business in before. Sports classes in case you were wondering

Is there anything like the "yellow pages" of the phone book? Could you go and visit each store that sells white goods and tell them that your services are available?

More people replace than repair these days. How about buying faulty ones then repairing and reselling?
