Hello! I just changed new aftermarket brake pads on my 1997 Maxima. Then I heard weird noies from right rear everytime I hit brake. The sound is like grind, grind, grind. I went to an auto shop to check out the problem. The guy told me to change back to new original Nissan pads for 120 dollars. He said that may solve the problem. But not guarantee. So should I go for it? Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

There has to be another problem. OE (original equipment) brake pads really should not make a difference. Go to another shop & have them put the car on a lift, remove the tire. There may be a problem with one of the brake hoses.

Take a look at the offending wheel it may just be something simple, particulary, as it is only one wheel causing the problem. I have had this before and cured it by removing the pads cleaning all the parts and smearing a very small amount high temp copper loaded grease on the metal shims and piston contact areas. However, have a good look at the disc because if it is badly scored or worn this could also be the cause. If this is the case new disc and pads will be required.

earlier replacing the brake, change the mechanic. He do not understand of what's causing the concern and yet is calling you to pay one hundred twenty for a fix of "i do no longer understand what its incorrect" Is the noise is consistent once you brake, it would want to come from the pad itself. If the noise is a cyclic clunk, then you definately can suspect of the rotor. or the hand brake mechanism. a professional mechanic should be in a position to inform you what the likely project is, after listening to the noise.

It very well may be that you need the original brand name parts for your Nissan. That happened to me with my VW Golf, except mine was even more of a nightmare cuz it turned out to be a half year model! Meaning some parts from one year and other parts from the next. Those wonderful Germans....
Anyways, I'd try the $120 parts. But go to a garage that will try something else with no additional charge if that doesn't fix the problem. You may want to consider what Pedro above me is suggesting, also.
Good luck!

The disks could be worn.

There could be dirt caught between the pad and the disk.

The pad may be defective and detached itself from the metal support.

It should not be making a noise.

At the very least, take a look.

What everyone is saying are good recommendations, but it could also be that there is nothing wrong with your brakes, my suggestion is to get a 2nd opinion. OEM parts are not always the correct answer, it could be as simple as re-aligning the backing plate, shims, or even a loose bolt.

Sometimes pads suffer crystalization due to violent weather changes. I'd ask for another opinion on wether to change your pads once again, as long as it doesn´t affect the brakes' performance, guess you can bear a little noise...

semi metallic or ceramic? Ceramic are the best and More expensive but if you change them and you here a grind something doesn't sound right if you go semi metallic you'll here squeal not a grind you need to see if the rotor is grooved and damaged it should replaced if t cant be turned.

Changing brake pads is pretty simple.

It sounds like you have a family of spotted owls nesting on your brakes. By law you cannot remove them. You must not bother them while they are nesting. If you do, you face possible prison
