Don't blow a fuse. Calm down. Or, if you like fluffy pillows, get down, you silly goose. I studied electric blankets in current events. Many people buy them on their own accord. They just want someone to socket to them. My parents used to have one, and I have used them, but I prefer to use regular blankets and comforters. It is easier to adjust layers of warmth than one blanket plugged into the wall. Besides, I move around too much. I don't want a cord attached to my blanket. As far as being a fire hazard, I suppose anything that is electrical can be. Just another good reason to stay with the good old-fashioned traditional blanket.

When I was a child we had them. But they have a tendency to wear thin and then the electric wires can get exposed and can indeed spark and cause a fire. My husband also warns against the use of them because there are more reported electric blanket fires than you even realize. My husband is a firefighter by the way.

I feel the same way...after all there are warnings on Heating Pads about Not going to sleep with them on.
I'll just throw an extra blanket on.

For- during the day time.
Against- in the evening time.
I have one, but used it 3 years ago. I have cats and one of them sleeps with me in the evening. So, I haven't used the electric blanket.

I think they are perfectly safe! They have to be regulated by a safety agency I am sure. I am diabetic and didn't know I wasn't supposed to use one! I don't anyway because we have our Sheltie, Bud, who when he cuddles up next to you must run 400 BTU's. I also have wondered if a kid were to use one and they accidentally wet the bed what would happen. So, basically I think I am against them!

lol, Let go and let God, girl. We'd freeze to death if not for electric blankets. Though I have a habit of buying 2 new ones every years cuz I worry, too.

that is so funny. I was thinking this morning of asking this same question.
I have one and have always had one.
They are safe and you can feel warm no matter if your alone or not.
As long as you replace them every couple of years they are safe. An occasional mishap happens but for the most part you'll be okay.

billy has an electric mattress heating pad that really helps his arthritic hip, it has an automatic timer that shuts off after 10 hours, everything seems safe enough, a heavy handmade afghan on top holds the heat in.

I agree with you 100%. I'd much rather have the normal body heat at night.
