Who's right Congress or our President's request for more troops in Iraq.

Congress cannot even manage peace in the US government so no. The president is given the right by the constitution to deploy more troops and congress cannot order troop movement. Congress has the right to refuse funding for troops but if the president chooses he can still send them which would create huge problems for the troops.

Congress is no more capable of creating peace than anyone or any other group. They are merely a legislative body. The best they can do is vote to oppose the Bush administartion. Neither side is right in this particular situation and the question of troops in Iraq is not a matter of world peace. It is a regional issue with no easy solution.

I have a tendency to back the president since he see's the full picture and is not making decisions in a vacuum. Congress has too many agendas and I personally don't trust them. Especially the new congress.

Congress is more interested in gaining political power than helping people. Most congressmen and women are continually looking for ways to increase their stature. Some do it by getting on high profile committees, others by making grand verbose speeches.

But when it comes to actually helping common folk, that is done as a way to get good press. Its a shame, but something that we have allowed to happen. The truth is, most of us don't have the time to pay attention to these people, because of jobs, family needs etc...So it will keep going on

All you have to do is look what happened when we pulled out all support for Afghanistan after they defeated the Soviet Union. Radical Islam took over the place. Should we repeat history? That is not for me to decide. Twenty years from now what will Iraq look like if we just leave and offer no support? Will it be a training ground for terrorism, like Afghanistan turned into? Will we have to return in a much more precarious position? Again it is not up to me to decide. I know what I think has to be done, it is just not a popular opinion.
